Special Webcast Announcement: We are pleased to announce a webcast of a two-day teaching by the International Buddhist Academy’s Venerable Khenpo Kunsang Choephel on ‘Taking Refuge in the Three Jewels and the Practice of Mandala Offering’ at Kathmandu, Nepal on September 19th and 20th, 2020. The teaching will be given in English.

Registration for the webcast of this event is now open to Gompa member-supporters at www.gompaservices.com. Registration and viewing will be available until October 19th, 2020. At the time you register there will also be the opportunity to make a voluntary offering in support of the International Buddhist Academy, in Kathmandu.

The Webcast:

Taking refuge is the formal act of entrusting one’s spiritual development to the Three Precious Jewels. The nature of the refuge sought from each of the Three Precious Jewels is: in the Buddha, the fully enlightened teacher, one seeks refuge in the perfect expression of the qualities of enlightenment; in the Dharma, one seeks refuge in the realization of the path; and in the Sangha, the spiritual community, one seeks refuge in perfect companionship on the path to Buddhahood. The Tibetan tradition considers the seeking of refuge in the Three Precious Jewels as the mark of becoming a practicing Buddhist and metaphorically it is said that one becomes a child of the heart of the Buddha.

Mandala Offering is a ritual of offering which involves visualisation of the entire universe and mentally offering this to an object of refuge such as one’s guru, a meditational deity, or the Three Jewels. Together with Taking Refuge, Vajrasattva Meditation, and the practice of Guru Yoga, Mandala Offering is traditionally regarded as a prerequisite for a successful practice of Vajrayana (the path of the tantras).

The Venerable Khenpo Kunsang Choephel, a senior teacher at the International Buddhist Academy, is becoming widely appreciated for the clarity and approachability of his introductory teachings on key topics.

Each day of the teaching will be recorded live and will be available to view by the end of the day Nepal time on September 19th and 20th. The webcast will then remain available for you to view at any time of your choosing until October 19th, 2020.
