IBA monks offered a puja for Ven Khenpo Samdup from Mustang, who left this life suddenly on 31 May at the monastery he founded – Lowo Nyiphug Namdrol Norbuling Monastery in Mustang. Ven Khenpo Samdup, born in Mustang, was ordained at Nyiphug Monastery immediately after his birth. At the age of 19 he completed a one year Hevajra meditative retreat. Afterwards he studied Buddhism at Ngorpa center, Manduwala, India for two years before attending Sakya College in Mussoorie, India. At Sakya College, he studied Buddhist philosophy, logic, debate and psychology for 11 years. He graduated from Sakya Colledge with a Kachupa degree, equivalent to a B.A., in 1998, and an Acharya degree, equivalent to an M.A., in 2000. After two years as a teacher at Sakya College, he was appointed Khenpo by H.H the Sakya Trizin Rinpoche who, in 2003, sent him to the monastery of his childhood, LNNNM, to give guidance to its development and preservation. His passing is a very great loss to his monastery and the Buddhist community.
