The Webcast:
The Sanskrit word Shamatha, (calm abiding), refers to a state of mind which is characterised by the stabilisation of attention on an internal object of observation, conjoined with the calming of external distractions to the mind. Shamatha is an essential basis for training one’s mind in the generation of Vipashyana (penetrative insight), a true, analytical insight into the more profound aspects of the chosen object, such as its lack of inherent existence and its ultimate nature. These two meditative techniques, Shamatha and Vipashyana, are a key foundation for progression on the meditative path toward enlightenment.
The Venerable Khenpo Kunsang Choephel, a senior teacher at the International Buddhist Academy, is becoming widely appreciated for the clarity and approachability of his introductory teachings on key topics.
Each day of the teaching will be recorded live and will be available to view by the end of the day on August 1st and 2nd. The webcast will then remain available for you to view at any time of your choosing until August 31st, 2020.
