Hundreds of people, including IBA monks, other sangha and lay people, gathered at Tharlam Monastery, Boudha on Sat 9th, Sun 10th and Mon 11th July where His Eminence Thartse Khen Rinpoche, the 77th throne holder of Ngorchen Vajradahra, bestowed the empowerment of White Tara and two days of explanatory teaching. H.E. Thartse Khen Rinpoche was ordained in Mustang. Sakya’s Ngor tradition has four palaces (Ladrang) namely Luding, Thartse, Phende and Khangsar. At the age of 13, Rinpoche was officially enthroned by H.H. Sakya Trizin as H.E. Thartse Shadrung, becoming the throne holder of Thartse palace. He then went to Puruwala’s Sakya Institute to study Buddhist Philosophy for seven years, studying under H.E. Khenchen Appey Rinpoche and H.E. Khenchen Kunga Wangchuk Rinpoche. He then went to Sakya College to further his higher studies. In 2001 H.E. was enthroned as the 77th Ngor Monastery Throne Holder in Ngor Ewam Choden. He is now known as H.E. Thartse Khen Rinpoche. His Eminence Thartse Khen Rinpoche will give the White Tara empowerment and two days of teachings in Lower Mustang on 18th, 19th and 20th July and in Upper Mustang on 25th, 26th and 27th July.
