Special Webcast Announcement: We are pleased to announce a webcast of a teaching by the International Buddhist Academy’s Venerable Khenpo Kunsang Choephel on the ‘Chod’ practices at Kathmandu, Nepal on September 12th, 2020. The teaching will be given in English.
Registration for the webcast of this event is now open to Gompa member-supporters at www.gompaservices.com. Registration and viewing will be available until October 12th, 2020. At the time you register there will also be the opportunity to make a voluntary offering in support of the International Buddhist Academy, in Kathmandu. The Webcast:
Chod (meaning ‘cutting through’) is a set of unique meditational practices known as chodyul, or ‘object of cutting’. Based on the Prajnaparamita tradition, these practices seek to overcome the self-centred and egotistical perspectives which arise from our apprehension of an inherently existing self-identity and the misapprehension of the nature of reality. In the Chod practices, these obscurations, visualized in the form of the yogin’s own body, are symbolically turned into an ‘object of cutting’ and compassionately offered as a feast-offering. The texts of Chod are usually sung in melodious verses, accompanied by the rhythmic playing of large hand-drums and bells.
The Venerable Khenpo Kunsang Choephel, a senior teacher at the International Buddhist Academy, is becoming widely appreciated for the clarity and approachability of his introductory teachings on key topics.
The teaching will be recorded live and will be available to view by the end of the day Nepal time on September 12th. The webcast will then remain available for you to view at any time of your choosing until October 12th, 2020.
